Ellen Kaye Gehrke, PhD scientific research on horses healing power on humans. "It appears that there is a type of communication occurring between people and beyond body language or verbal communication impacting each other's moods and attitude.
In this article Constance Scharff Ph. D. outlined equine therapy benefits in equine-facilitated psychotherapy, identifying and processing feelings specifically in addiction, trauma and domestic abuse.
New research shows that equine therapy might go a long way in starting the healing process for veterans. In the program, participants learned about horses, stroking their sides, cleaning hooves and building trust with the animals. "We saw with the study that a lot of people who were not amenable to going into traditional therapy because they had an idea of what mental health therapy was because they had this kind of ingrained, sense of, 'I don't need help. I'm a military service member. I'm stronger than this kind of a thing,'" said Ryba, who is now director of community outreach and education for the Military Family Wellness Center at New York Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center in New York City.
Connecting with a horse builds relationship skills in people with ADHD — and helps patients feel comfortable in their skin.
Living well with ADHD means more than managing symptoms and getting things done. We want to feel good about ourselves, control our emotions, and have healthy relationships, too. One problem with traditional talk therapy and ADHD coaching is that each requires a level of self-awareness that not all patients have. How do you teach someone without a filter to be less impulsive by talking about it?
